I'd be curious to see the contact info. If they are close to the San Diego border....I'm interested in their price to add extra CNG tanks to an existing dedicated CNG vehicle.

would be interested to see what type of certifications there is.
Maybe some sort of international certification?

I would love to buy tanks from them. CNG tank prices in the US are a joke.

WADR,
Yea, but a "big bang theory" comes to mind. Safety isn't inexpensive.

there is one company from spain, that promotes cng in monterrey NL mex.
and another from southamerica that owns shops in central mexico.
you have to do research to find the closest to the border from your town.

ed 2028,
if you have the contact info or name for either of the companies you are referring to, please post them. I can then have one of my spanish speaking friends give them a call to ask about CNG businesses close to the San Diego border.

I would be curious about the refueling infrastructure in Mexico too. Locations, pressures, etc. But I would not even consider having a conversion done there

usa looks very undeveloped compared to other countries so do not think too much of yourself, saying that other countries don't have this technology.

I have not yet called family memebers that live in el paso ,mexico city and monterrey yet.
I tried to call a place in mexico city but it was closed that day.It was a holiday in mexico.
this place in mexico city is the best of them all but logistically seems to far away from the border. If somebody knows how to take a bunch of cars for cheap to mexico city let me know. Unless you all want to drive down there
in a big group.

Sounds a tad bit risky to be driving down to central mexico- anything closer to the usa border?

I know that Mexico has been using CNG since 1999 or something like that.

I would feel very secure about installing the CNG in Mexico for 10% of the USA price.

every dollar cost 10.4 pesos, so 8000 pesos will be less than $800 dollars

I'm surprised that this thread is here... I had assumed that a conversion done in Mexico wouldn't have all the the right stuff to be legit in the US. Or it may be that futher conversion contact info included in the thread has already been deleted?

Hell, I would consider driving from Canada to have this done. I travel to CA regularly. I am more curious about it than anything. I would love to see how they compare to the $15k conversions done here.

Problem with that is, after you get it all done and your car is all 'tampered' with, then you have to drive back to Canada with illegal CNG on your car, and the EPA cops might pull you over on your road trip back while in the USA and fine you! You might have to rent a tow truck and tow it back through the states:D

The admins here might be able to back what I say

Yeah the CARB for us in Ca would be a pain if you were to convert. But, getting an extra tank installed would be no problem. Maybe we can get a group drive down there so everyone feels safe.

BTW, I have been to Monterrey, MX. That's where my wife's family is from. I went about 6 years ago, it was interesting. I didn't have any problems on my trip if your wondering about safety. If your driving it's close to the Texas border.

The admins here might be able to back what I say Nonsense, that is like saying if I remove the smog pump from my 80's car, or do an engine swap, like millions of others, I should expect to be stopped by the EPA. this EPA stuff is a non-issue.

I just figured it was another line about jack booted EPA thugs bashing in your doors.

If someone actually sees a Jack Booted Thug EPA Agent please take a picture so I can see what they look like? On the other hand they may just look like your next door neighbor.
On a more serious note has anyone actually ever met an EPA Inforcer anywhere?

I recently had a person apply for a job installing cng kits for me. He had worked just across the border doing installations for two years. When I questioned him, he had no idea of pressures, did not know where to install the 1/4 turn shutoff valve, and did not understand wiring diagrams. He had never installed an injector system but he believed he was an expert! Unless I miss my guess, he is doing cng installations using **** fogger kits working out of his carport.
I suppose there are many who only see the $$$4. You usually get what you pay for.

Well, heck, even if you just went down there and got the system. If you had to do a bit of work to do/fix the install...

There's really no reason that a conversion should cost $15k. Except for EPA interference...

I know a few mechanics who can build an engine with the best of them, but they can't tell you the temps and pressures that are going on inside the engine.

Why? Because it doesn't matter. As long as the build is done properly, the rest is just trivia!

Being so close to Mexico I have known for years that you can have a propane conversion done for about $800. But this is the first I've heard of CNG there. If you think about the components involved to convert and labor there is just no way. Propane maybe yes but not CNG.

I wish I had a camera on me, about 1 year ago in Phoenix I saw a truck in a parking lot with a BBQ 5 gallon propane tank sitting on the passenger seat not strapped or anything with the line running into the wheel cavity under the hood. Mexico conversion?

ajgiorgi

Is Propane just as clean as cng? Just wondering.

larrycng
09-27-2008, 03:24 PM
no LP is not a clean as CNG. The Propane molecule is C3H8 and the methane (cng) is CH4, LP has 2 more carbon atom per molecule.

So What? Watching the tail pipe emissions during a whole lot of dynamometer Calif SMOG tests, LP will have about 10 to 12% less CO2 than gasoline and CNG has about 20% less CO2 than gasoline. CO and HC are about the same. oxides of Nitrogen, NOx, will drop around 30 to 40% from my observations.
